Castle Eden Walkway Bottle Hill near Wynard
clear October morning with sunshine the time was approx 8.30 /8.45 am
Seen for about 5 minutes, two fields away
approx 3 ft and 4 to 5ft in length
I was driving a transit van to make a delivery to the Castle Eden Walkway, as I looked across to the field I saw
what I thought was a large black dog with a long looping tail curled up at the bottom. I then drove further up for a
closer look and saw a large black cat stalking along the hedgerow of the next field it was moving slowly but keeping
close to the hedge. I watched it for some five minutes until it went through a hole in the hedgerow. I then went to
the office of the walkway but it was closed I never mentioned it to anyone until later that night when I told my wife
because I thought people would think me mad and say I was seeing things, the reason I am now contacting
you it has been on the local radio that they want sightings of these cats and i didn’t get the contact number so didn’t
know if this was of any use to you. (Source: BCIB)

The cat looked jet black, perhaps this was due to the white snow making it look so dark, it looked more like a leopard than a puma ie a panther.
the tail was narrow not bushy it was about two and a half to three feet long.
The cat was about the size of a german shepard dog.it had blue eyes.
It was Christmas day, I decided to walk off my dinner; I walked from the station house on the Stockton side of the walkway all the way to the top of the walkway and accross the road on to another track on the Hartlepool side. I walked less than a mile up there, but because it was three in the afternoon and it was cold I turned round to go back, when I did I saw thirty feet away from me a big black cat which seemed to have been stalking me, it ducked down behind dead vegatation when it saw me. I then lost site of it for a few minutes then as I got within ten feet of where I last saw it, it leaped over the top of my head ten feet across the foot path over a hawthorn ,, and into the field on my left where it ran about five hundred meters non stop at high speed and disappeared into asmall wood. All the time I was watching it run I was thinking to myself this is unreal no one will believe me. (Source: BCIB)
