A Sutherland couple who claim to have seen a big cat near their
Sutherland home say they have captured the beast on camera.
And a copy of a DVD recording of the sighting at Rhiconich, near
Kinlochbervie, has been handed over to Northern Constabulary.
Linda and Wayne McMahon, of Balchreick, spotted the animal, which they
described as grey black, about 6ft from nose to tip of tail and about
2ft tall, just after 9pm last Wednesday.
Mrs McMahon said they watched it for about 15 minutes as it sat in the
sun, hid in the grass, chased rabbits and then headed off over the
hill after a sheep.
They reported the matter to the police and Mrs McMahon said an
officer, who visited the scene, found footprints made by an animal
about the size of a labrador dog. He also found evidence of a recent kill.
Inspector Neil Mackinnon, stationed at Dornoch, said they would be
holding on to the DVD in case other sightings were reported in the area.
