Cat Was Size of Large Labrador
By Dave McRobie
Forres Gazette: 5th April 2007
I SAW the same animal, as described, about ten years ago. I was running down the hill by Newforres quarry when I saw this animal skirting the field at the fence on my right.
Then, 50 metres in front of me, it just loped across the road, unmistakeable as a large cat, which then disappeared up into the trees by the quarry.
It was the size of a large labrador dog, black and muscular with a long curved tail. It was quite a shock and I stopped running right there - I didn't know whether to try and follow on for a better look or get myself well away from such a beastie.
Where it left the road the animal track can still be seen opposite the line of the field edge, presumably where deer or foxes cross.
In discussion with friends and others I know that there have been similar local sightings of a big black cat, and certainly more recently than 20 years ago. Maybe try Harry Younie for more info on sightings in that area.
Do you have any information on the above reports. Were you the person
involved, or are you aware of any more sightings in this area. We would appreciate any information that you could
give us.
