A Terrifying Black Panther is Stalking the Inverclyde Countryside
The Greenock Telegraph: 26th March
The latest sighting of the ferocious black cat came this week when it scared the wits out of a motorist and his pal near Kilmacolm.
Port Glasgow window cleaner Gordon McLean was driving home with his workmate when the beast ran out in front of them.
The drama unfolded when Gordon was out collecting cash from his rounds in Kilmacolm on Tuesday night.
Gordon, 46, of Minard Road, said: “We were going into Auchenbothie Gardens when it ran right across the road and went into the bushes at about 7pm.
“It looked like a panther. It was pure black.
“It was about 3ft tall and the same in length. It just sat there and stared at us. We drove on and turned. The adrenaline kicked in and we went back. We put on our hazard lights and went out for a look but it had gone.
“In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have got out of the car.”
Workmate John Gibson, 24,
of Montrose Avenue, said: “I don’t know if people will believe us, but we saw it with our own eyes.”
In the early hours of Wednesday morning a couple living just two miles away from where the men made their sighting were woken by a terrible screeching. One said: “Our dogs were barking like they have never done before, even when we have had intruders.
“We have lived here for 20 years and I have never heard a noise like it before.”
These are the latest in a long line of mysterious big cat activities around Kilmacolm.
Gordon said: “One of my customers has spotted it a few times and a lady in one of the houses used to hear the cat.”
Two years ago, the panther was spotted sharpening its claws on a tree close to the cemetery on Port Glasgow Road.
Big cat expert Sandy Smith, from Kilmacolm, has set up his own Scottish Big Cat investigations.
He said: “This is the first sighting in Kilmacolm for a while, but hopefully others will come forward.”
