British Big Cats
Back
Mark Fraser: Ayrshire
Since a small boy I have had a great interest in sightings of animals that just should not be there. Over the years that interest has stayed with me and grown, and it is not confined only to the big cat but all manner of weird and wondeful creatures that are reported throughout Britain.
I have been investigating sightings for the last 15 years in Scotland and Yorkshire and it wasn't until November 2003 that I actually saw my first big cat.
I run the Scottish Big Cat Society / Big Cats in Britian research group, and I am very active. Not only do I promise to answer, visit and investigate fully your sighting but also believes that witness confidentiality, should they request it, is of the upmost importance.
I have interviewed literally hundreds of witnesses, spent many nights out in the field looking for these elusive creatures and I still enjoy every minute of it despite my getting on in years and feeling the cold more than I used to :)
Please report any sightings new or old, no matter how trivial you may think them to be and even if you have reported to other's in the past. I have a vast archive of sighting's from the British Isles and every report help's to build a bigger picture.
I am not a big cat expert, but what I have done over the last 20 years is investigate sightings in this country, I am quite knowledgeable on the history of the big cat saga in the UK. The evidence I gather, and have gathered in the past is presented to the real big cat experts, and those people in various fields whose knowledge is needed at certain times. Also after 20 years you do learn a thing or two.
Mark has appeared in several TV documentaries on the subject of big cats in Britain, radio shows and the media. He maintains and designs the BCIB website and runs the group on a daily basis. His main area of activities are out in the field these days in order to gain that elsive photograph or video footage; not in the hope of proving it to the world but for his own satisfaction only.
