Police are investigating another sighting of a big cat after pictures of a panther-like creature were featured in a national newspaper.
The animal, which has since been dubbed "The Beast of Billericay", adds weight to the likelihood of similar sightings in neighbouring areas.
A police spokesman said: "We are investigating sightings of a large cat in West Hanningfield in August and again on September 5.
"The photographs have been sent to the Independent Big Cat monitoring group which said that the animal could be a big cat or a large domestic cat.
"Although there have been numerous sightings like this in the past no genuine big cats have been captured or found dead.
"However, we do keep an open mind about such incidents and continue to investigate sightings."
