Mysterious sightings and animal attacks crop up regularly in the pages of the WMN. These are some recent "big cat" sightings:
In August 2003, a vet concluded a horse had been attacked by a large cat in South Brent, South Devon. Mischief, a palomino, was left with severe bite and claw wounds.
In January 2004, a farmer found a mauled sheep between Helston and Gweek in West Cornwall. Mike Thomas, who used to run Newquay Zoo, blamed a big cat.
In May 2004, paw marks left in sand at RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay, measuring two-and-a-half inches in diameter, were logged as part of a scientific investigation into wild cat sightings by servicemen in April.
In November 2005, a delivery driver said he saw a "puma" in a country lane in Dunchideock, near Exeter.
In August 2007, a number of witnesses saw a fawn-coloured big cat in Bodmin.
In January 2008, a dog walker believed a big cat left the carcass of a sheep in woodland in the Blackdown Hills in Somerset.
