Is the Shepshed Panther Dead? By Isaac Ashe

CARCASS: Creature still shrouded in mystery THE elusive black panther is dead claims one Shepshed resident, after spotting its body by the side of a country road. Sue Hutton, of Romway Close, says she saw the carcass of the famed big cat in Ingleberry Road on the outskirts of Shepshed earlier this year. However, even in death the creature remains a mystery, as when she returned to investigate, the body had vanished. She said: "There was a car right behind me, so I didn't stop. I went back half an hour later to check but the body had gone. "I'd seen it sitting in about the same spot at about the same time on one occasion earlier last year. It ran off. "On both occasions that I saw this unusual animal, it was dark. It had a smallish pointed head and ears. "I got the impression that it had black fur with a ginger tone. The overall size was about the same as a large dog. "I see foxes fairly frequently on my trips to and from Leicester, and this beast did not look like a fox." The sighting was confirmed by Oliver Taylor, who lives at a farm along the road. He said: "I did see the dead animal. It was black but I think it may have been a badger. "But there's been so many sightings in Shepshed, I think there's got to be a panther out there." The Shepshed Panther is wanted, dead or alive, by the Echo.
