Snowy Owl Seen in the Cairngorm Mountains
While walking in the Cairngorms, near the summitt of the UK's second
highest mountain, Ben Macdui, Corey Lane snapped this photo of a Snowy
owl. It is very unusual to see a snowy owl in Scotland at anytime, and
especially so during the winter months (the obvious explanation is
that there are many fewer people in the mountains to see them).
Corey Lane emailed the picture to the Head Ranger of the Cairngorm
Ranger Service, Nick Bullivant, who says that the owl has not been
seen anywhere since.
Other Sightings
Two snowy owls were seen in the Hebrides in 2007, but the last known
pair to breed in the UK bred on the Shetlands in 1975.
