Armed Police In Hunt For Killer Cats
Armed police hunting a mysterious big cat which is believed to have killed a
farmer's dog in Mid Wales say there may be two such animals on the loose.
Dyfed-Powys Police sharpshooters have been drafted in to hunt the animal
which struck at the farm at Llangadog, near Llandovery, on Sunday.
The police are warning the public and farmers not to search for the
puma-like cat which attacked the dog within sight of its owner.
The cat made no attempt to attack the man who was on the scene for up to 15
minutes.
Officers armed with high-powered rifles are watching the site of the attack
from hides and if the cats return, they will be shot.
People were warned not to attempt to search for the animal themselves
because it could adversely affect the police operation.
The creature would also be dangerous.
Police also warned farmers to be extra vigilant during darkness when the cat
is believed to be more active.
They were advised to patrol in pairs and carry high-powered torches.
A police spokesman said: "It is important to stress that a shotgun will
probably be ineffective against the cat, which can cover ground very quickly."
The farmer saw the wild cat while checking his sheep.
His dog attacked the animal, which turned and killed it.
Another cat appeared, which is when the farmer called the police.
